New Year's Resolution | The change starts with...

Just a quick post to greet you a happy new year.

We often start the year with a list of things to change, a.k.a. New Year's Resolution. But, most of these are often neglected, forgotten and never started. Some are serious, some are not. Some of the things listed are good, some are serious and some are life-changing.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." - 2 Corinthians 5:17
What about life-changing things? From bad deeds to good? From doing what is selfish to doing what is right? I just want to share that, we don't need to wait for the end of the year to see what things should be changed, or wait for a new year to have a new life. For spiritual, and often "good deeds", we just need to go back to Christ, and let Him change us.

That's all, Blessed New Year everyone :)

My dad...(bow) | The Life of a Pastor (A PK's perspective)

Though he may never read this post, it's somehow dedicated to him. Well, Happy Birthday dad. (Dec 28)

Let's see, what is it like having a dad as a pastor... or a pastor as a dad? hmmm.

A failure: Finding a purpose through Christ

I'm a failure. Not because I'm not doing anything with my life. Not because I did not dedicate my life to God, and Not because I'm not doing anything for Him. I'm a failure for today's society of "success." But despite this seemingly failure, i'm still proud to say that I am still useful and joyful in being part of the ministry.

Influences in teaching | what I learned from being a teacher and youth leader

I have been teaching for our youth group for a few years now, and I just want to share some influences that helped me shape my teaching style, and be a youth leader at our church. Believe it or not, anime and manga is a part of these influences! Read on and you'll know why.

Decem-brrr | God's Blessings

What's going on? I'm having a writer's block. A writer's block is when.. write.. stuff.. idea? what?
I already started 3 blog posts. started. At least, I already made a sentence for each blog post, ahaha.

Hopefully I can continue and finish it by this December.
I will make this promise now, in order for me to be challenged to do it. This month, I will publish these 3 blog posts, 1. Influences in teaching 2. I'm a failure 3. My dad.. (bow)

My last post was November 18.. and it was an update, just like this one. So yeah, I haven't really posted a relevant blog post dealing with a certain topic aside from an update. But, I guess an update is just as relevant as the other blog posts, at least for me, because years from now, I could read this and think "oh, I did that?" or "that happened?" and just laugh or cry, or whatever.

Where is this post leading to? Maybe I'll just tell a story then.

Blessed November | God's blessings

It's 10:00pm and it's kinda boring. Not yet inspired to write another blog post article, so I just want to write an update about God's grace in my life. Atleast, 5 years from now I would read this again and say "My November is so blessed."

God's grace can forgive our mistakes

Roy Harper: "Don't Abandon me." Oliver Queen: "Never."
If you are watching the tv series Arrow, this line is from season 3 episode 6, Guilty. Or if you haven't watched this episode yet, spoiler alert... kidding, there are no spoilers in this post :)

Reading the Bible with Grace

How do we read the Bible? What do we look for when we read the Bible? Answers? Instructions? Information? Let me just share with you what I look for when I read the Bible.

Category is my name

We live in a world full of labels and categorization. This post actually has a label to sort things in order. It is for me (and you, the reader) to easily view all posts under the same label having related topics. Most of the time, as Christians, we view others with a label, and in this post we will see the dangers of categorizing people.

...
This is part of the "C" Series where I tackle some problems I observe with the church and individual Christians. This is NOT to discredit the Christian Faith, but to renew it. To learn from our mistakes and move forward.

God's will through desperate times

It is easy to say "It is God's will" or "It is God's plan" when we see the big picture. But when we are facing trials, struggles or in desperate times, it really is hard to say that "This is part of God's plan" until we see the result, or when we receive something better. When Joseph was sold by his brothers to the traders, it was only years later that we will realize that it was part of God's will, His plan to save a country and the brothers of Joseph.

A dangerous "light" | Christians as light or fire?

It is often quoted that "Christians are the light of the world." It is a challenge to Christians. But, the church and Christians are often seen as "enemies" by the secular and non-believers. Sometimes, Christians are really at fault on why we are seen that way. Are we a light, or a wildfire?

"Do you believe?" | Turning an empty belief to a genuine belief in the Gospel

"Do you believe?" - This is a phrase that most of us use when we explain our beliefs. In this case, I am talking about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. So, my question with how we use this "Do you believe?" phrase is this. What are the next words that comes after the phrase? Is it "Do you believe [me]?" or "Do you believe [in the Gospel of Jesus Christ]?"

Encourage One Another

It is not uncommon for teens, or young people, to look for enjoyment in the church. I, too, once looked for enjoyment on other churches when I can't find one on our church. As a church, we are one body who are there for each other. We are there to encourage one another.

Pursuit of happiness? | Finding Joy in Christ

Have you watched the movie Pursuit of Happyness? It is about this one guy, (will smith) who chases his dream job. He does everything he can, all sacrifices he can make in order to achieve his happiness. I haven't watched this movie though, but by looking at the reaction of my uncle after he watched it, I don't think it was a good movie. This is what he said, "That's it!? ugh!"

The Prodigal God | Book Review

Book Title: The Prodigal God
Author: Timothy Keller

This is one of the first books that I have read and loved. We often hear the story of the prodigal son, where the son took all of his inheritance, spent it foolishly, became broke, and went back home. The typical sermon where a sinner goes home to God. But the author, Timothy Keller, tells another part of the story, the story of the elder brother. He wrestles with the story of both sides, telling about grace and salvation and also reasons out the problems Christians face today.

Be involved in the church

Being a Pastor's Kid, I have been involved with the church at a young age. Be it presenting at church events, joining choirs, cleaning or just being at church. I really can't escape the church and being "volun-told" to join activities. So why do we need to be involved in the church?

Choosing your Faith | Book Review

Book Title: Choosing your Faith: In a world of Spiritual Options
Author: Mark Mittelberg

There are different religions aside from Christianity. And within Christianity there are different denominations which are estimated to be around 41,000 in number! [See other Christian statistics here] And also within Christianity, you can find the different cults that twists the Word of God.

The Blessing of Mission Trips

One of the advantages of being a PK is travelling. As a kid, we have been visiting churches, and held vbs on the mountain provinces here in the Philippines .So I was exposed to the mission field at a young age. Even now, I love mission trips because now I understand the importance of the mission, and I can see and experience the blessing of God to the churches and places that we are visiting.

Growing up as a PK and my life changing experience

Growing up as a PK, to summarize, is not different with how other's grew up. Well, yeah you could say it's different, but in essence it is the same. We all experience life. We all have our own moments of joy, happiness, troubles, pressures. There might be some "unique" experiences that we could say only pk's experience (You are a PK if..struggles of a PK) but it is also true for everyone. We all have our own unique experiences. Well all have our own story to tell.

My Salvation Story

This is not a salvation story that is dramatic, and that will bring you to tears. I have heard testimonies that are real tearjerkers, and how I wish my story was like theirs. How they tell that God saved them from their evil works, or how lost they were in their life and all that. It's amazing how one's life was changed from a morally sinful life to a God-fearing and loving life.

Stuff Christians say

Well, the funny thing why I thought about this post is the recent album or song that one direction released. You got it right, FIREPROOF. (I think I heard some girls scream?)
Anyways, when I saw that it was trending I clicked on it, and to my surprise it was One Direction. Are we now getting on the same page? Or are you confused about "what is with this post talking about fireproof?"

Reason why I believe in God | Lesson

This is a lesson that I have prepared for one of our youth fellowship. A lesson on why we believe in God with the text on Psalm 23, a psalm of David.
Why do we believe in God? Why do we believe what we believe?

Life lesson on expectations

In my last blog post Struggles of a PK, there was one point where I talked about false expectations. And as I was contemplating about "expectations," it hit me! Aren't I also placing false expectations with our young people at our church? Sometimes, I expect them to behave well in church because they grew up in the church and that they were already taught how to behave and what not.

How to survive in a church

I think most Christians who grew up in a church have thought about either one of these lines:
"I go to church because I need to go to church"
"I need to go to church because of my parents"
"I need to go to church to be saved"
and if you are a pk like me, maybe this line
"I go to church for the sake of going to church (because y'know, my dad is the pastor)."

Struggles of a Pastor's Kid

I think the number 1 struggle of Pastor's Kids is false expectations imposed upon them. Just because they are PK's, people think that "Oh, he's such a good boy" or "You should know this Bible stuff, right?" and even negative remarks such as "You are a PK and yet you are annoying..or yet you do this (something considered bad) or you don't do this (something considered "holy"). Let's face it, PKs are not perfect. We slip up, we make mistakes, we don't know everything, and we are learning.

You are a pastor's kid if

I have read this post that talks about being a Pastor's Kid. Some of it are true and some are not, basically because of the difference of culture and church setting, so I decided to make my own version.

Count your blessings

This is a journal, not a diary.. xD
I am jaydee, a Pastor's Kid (PK) who grew up in a church. In time, I learned about God and came to know God as my Saviour.
I have decided to create a blog that will help me list out all the blessings that I have received from God

"Count your blessings name them one by one;
Count your blessings see what God has done."

You see, Christians tend to forget about God and feel that God is not there when they think that God is not blessing them anymore.  Even if our attendance in church is perfect and we sing and pray in public, but our heart is away from God, that just shows that we are falling away from God. - Yes! I have been there.

So that is why decided to create this blog. To remind me that God has blessed me, and is not giving up on me.

I have been reading "Diary of a wimpy kid" and that is why made me decide to push through into making this blog. (So yes, the page title is based from DoaWK).
This first post is just an introduction, I will be posting more formally (?) or more planned out and maybe tell some stories about God and his wonderful works in my life in the future.
